DCLMA Augmented Reality Viewer

17 March 2017

One should never leave the safety of indoors during a lightning storm. This web-based project uses Augmented Reality methods to let users explore hazardous thunderstorms in the Washington, DC metro area without ever leaving the safety and comfort of home.

It uses a Python fork of the MINDEngine geoinformatics framework to create custom views of Lightning Mapping Array data on demand in real time so users can see the lightning developing all around them.

The Weather Archive Under the Hood

17 March 2017

The true power of the Weather Archive is the server-side software that manages and displays the requested imagery. It is a highly-efficient geoinformatics engine built to take advantage of geoscience standards and convecntions. It is light enough to run on a Raspberry Pi 2, yet powerful enough to let the user decide exactly what plots they wish to create.

The Weather Forecaster

17 March 2017

The Weather Forecaster is a Weather Archive project with a specific focus on weather and seasonal climate models over North America. It brings in high-resolution datasets such as the High Resolution Rapid Refresh (HRRR) model and allows users to assess and analyze forecasts and trends with a specialized suite of tools such as the forecast trajectory tool.

The Weather Archive

17 March 2017

The Weather Archive is a web-based interactive tool for exploring "Big Data" in the cloud. It brings together petabytes of data holdings at NASA and NOAA data centers across the country into a single platform that lets the user probe and compare data in real time using a modern web browser.
